To dd - I only WISH I looked that “scarey”. She’s beautiful!!! The article gave me chills. I am so proud of “our little Dooce!” hahahaha!! Seriously though - what an awesome tribute to the hard work you both do!

I’ve always really appreciated dooce.com, but this article gave me a whole new level of understanding for the work Heather (and you) put into the website! I’m sad to hear that it can be so overwhelming for her, but that’s important to know as a reader. Thinking about this article will keep me from cursing the next time she takes a weekday off of posting. ;-)

    Oh, and great earrings Heather!

Thanks to you both for your wonderful websites.

Dooce got quoted in “The Week” recently also. Although, I think that my wife and I might be the only people in America who read that particular publication.

I loved it! I couldn’t believe what Jezebel wrote though. I just never understood how anyone could find Dooce anything less than endearing.

Congrats Armstrong family! I think you’re internet famous now.

    Charles Fold Says:

You both make me proud to live in Salt Lake City! My favorite part of the article is “it’s that outrageousness, humility and raw honesty that also feed her bond with readers” Very true.

Cool…just found you through dooce.com…by way of http://www.5minutesformom.com/

    Will return often!

    DrKoob Says:

Great article. I never thought of this as a parenting website. I’m just here for the Chuck. (Seriously, I just like great writing.)

  25. 25
    Meegan Says:

The article is fantastic. Heather looks gorgeous and comes off perfectly smart, funny, humble and utterly human. I honestly never thought about how utterly intrusive her blog must feel at times, particularly when she hears from the haters. I’m just glad that she knows there are so many more of us lovers out here.

Hope you guys are busy celebrating with a bourbon or four (unless she’s still w/ the girls in CA in which case she’s likely celebrating for the both of you). Congrats, Dooce!

    lostinutah Says:

I saw a chick at the Oyster Bar tonight reading the article. All I could do not to rip it out of her hands. But I didn’t…sigh.

Very nice and congrats to all of the members of your household! It’s a team effort!

    Dooce in the Journal! Sweet!

Wish it happened when I was still working there, but that was 10 years ago.

    Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

I wore my Dooce T-shirt on my birthday - pictures sucked but here’s one.

    Sally Fulton Says:

You both make is seem so natural that I never stopped to think that you would feel pressured by the blogging. You’re always witty and your house is edgy, your kid’s adorable, your dogs are cute, and you’re always funny, that shit’s easy, right?

  29. 29
    Terry Says:

I’m with DrKoob - never once have I thought of Dooce as a “mommyblog” (and what a dismissive term that is…). I just love the way she tells a story. Actually, I love the way you both write.

    Congrats on the big article!

    Darcie Says:

    sooo. cool.

    nice work, guys!

  31. 31
    Shalini Says:

Loved the article, and know that even if she takes a vacation and has the most severe writer’s block, I would come back and read all the other posts until she was back.

Congrats on the WSJ article! Always knew that Dooce was an awesome website and Heather’s the most excellent writer in the blogosphere… well you both.. since she would probably say she wouldn’t be where she was without you ;)

    Congrats blurbodoocery!

And Leta and Chuck and Coco!

  32. 32
    J. Bo Says:

Awesome article! Frame that immediately… if only for the Chuck pic (though Heather looks great, too).

Re: Violent Acres and Jezebel– I guess vitriolic backlash is the inevitable result of success in ANY field of endeavor; I think you and Heather handle it admirably. And you guys should oh-so-smugly comfort yourselves with the fact that your attackers haven’t the vaguest concept of proper grammar (my recent favorite illiteracy from VA? “After all, if I would have saw her name, I would have…” GAAH).

  33. 33
    minxlj Says:

Great article, and it only makes me respect you both even more. Well done, and keep up the great work :-)

  34. 34

  35. 35
    Becky Says:

If possible, I have MORE respect for you and Heather now.

Give her a hug from me. Really! Go up to her, hug her and say “this was from a total stranger who thinks you rock!”

  36. 36
    Dann Ryan Says:

To hell with that. Heather has had her 15 minutes.

    Chuck in The WSJ!!

    Granny Says:

Have been a fan for over 2 years……and I am a grandmother of 3! Wonder if Dooce knows how valuable her insight is to all ages…am really proud for her. She deserves the recognition. Of course Chuck needs an extra treat today since he made the WSJ too!

  38. 38
    Kimberly Says:

Reading your post today (4/11/08), it would be nice if the link to the article worked. All the traffic must be killing the WSJ, or I need to subscribe to read it. Possibly someone could cut-and-paste it somewhere else.

You guys are awesome. Great article.

Tim, we subscribe to The Week, love it. I saw the bit about “being dooced” in there as well.

Good news week for the blurbodoocery.

  43. 43
    Jodie Says:

Way to go, Heather & Jon! I’m so thrilled that dooce has been recognized in the Wall Street Journal. Like a previous commenter - I don’t read it because it’s a parenting blog, I just love Heather’s offbeat humor and writing. Plus your combined photography efforts are awesome. Love those racoon pics and the ongoing life of Chuck, Coco and friends. :-)

  44. 44
    amanda Says:

I have loved and read Dooce for a long time and bounced over here a while ago and love it as well. Thanks for making what is obviously (per the WSJ story) a tough job seem so effortless. Your honesty and humor is awesome. Plus - Chuck. I mean, words don’t do him justice. Quite often my poor officemate has to her me randomly squeal “CHUUUCK” when a particularly cute pic has been posted.

  45. 45
    Lesley Says:

Congrats on the success, which is well deserved.

I sometimes wish Heather would open comments on the daily Chuck, cuz the one she’s got up today (Bo and Coco’s tug of war with Bo looking every bit a war-weary military commander) is my desktop photo today. I feel compelled to let her know how how grateful I am for the cuteness and the ‘tude she manages to nail every time.

Have you guys considered retailing portraits of the animals in your community? I realize you have the calendar of Chuck, but small portraits (like the ones including Bo of late) would be awesome.

  46. 46
    Kim Says:

Great article - I’m a huge fan of Dooce and Blurbomat. I cannot believe some of the comments you and Heather get, and my heart goes out to you - there are a lot of strange, angry people out there. Both of your sites give me a smile and/or something to think about every day, and everyone I’ve told about your sites love you too. I’m glad you go on despite some of the negative, badly written comments.

I agree with the commenter above - please let us comment on The Daily Chuck!

  47. 47
    Kim Says:

p.s. I completely related to the “SQUEAKING. SQUEAKING. SQUEAKING.” thing - my crazed young beagle and my friend’s Wheaten Terrier pup enact this scene constantly. Usually at 60 mph speeds!

  48. 48
    Shelley Says:

Jon, Leta, Chuck and Coco, you must be so proud. It should definitely be burritos and tequila for dinner tonight! Congratulations to you all! Oh yeah, you too Heather. :)

  49. 49
    Donny Pauling Says:

That’s great! Congrats to both of you! I never buy that paper but will do so if this issue is still available at the local bookstore.

    Lisa Says:

She was in the Anchorage Daily News also! It was the same article on the front page! OF THE ANCHORAGE DAILY NEWS in ALASKA! Yeah, I was pointing to it all day saying, “I READ THIS BLOG EVERY DAY!”

  51. 51
    pnutsugar Says:

That is a great photo….you must be so proud!!

  52. 52
    Annie Rhiannon Says:

It’s kind of weird to think of Dooce with writer’s block. I thought she was, like, the bionic woman of blogging or something.

    It makes me feel better.

  53. 53
    Kelley Says:

I think that was a very great article as well. I’ve been reading dooce since the kitchen remodel at the old house… and I must say I’ve always wondered about what goes on behind the scenes, ie does Heather ever get writers block? Or does she write the bits of convo we read down as it happens, or is her memory THAT great?

I think what you two have done is quite amazing. Cheers to you both, I hope to have the pleasure of reading for a loooong long time.

    :)
