Chewing Still For Just a Moment
April 29th, 2008Getting clear shots of this dog, even with a nice camera is difficult. She moves very very quickly and is either fully awake and amped or passed out and barely moving. Something about her age and breed, I suppose.
How about those nails? Time for a pedicure. o

Great shot! I love the angle. Oh, Coco. She looks so grown up here! How is the potty training coming along?

She’s getting so much bigger! I remember seeing her short little puppy nose– now it is so long and noble looking.
On a side note I really enjoyed your post yesterday and devoured everyone’s comments and insights. I still can’t say where on the outrage spectrum I fall.

Your description of her two speeds (full-tilt and comatose) remind me of my little Roscoe when he was that age. Now that he’s 5, full-tilt is limited to about 1-2 hours per day. Thank heavens.
I got my other dog when he was about a year old. MUCH easier. He came pre-potty trained!
She’ll grow out of this…and the poop-eating, too. Man, that is totally disgusting, though. Nothing worse than a dog with poop-breath trying to lick your face.

As a fellow collie owner, I sympathize . . . (mine is half border collie, half Ausralian blue heeler, if she’s not heeling my kids, she’s heeling the cat, the other dog, my feet . . .)

So is CoCo much more energetic than Chuck was at the same age? BTW, do you know what kind of mix Chuck is? I noticed that black spot on his tongue and wondered if he has a dash of Chow in there somewhere (not that he looks anything like a Chow). We’ve always had sight hounds - currently Scottish deerhounds - and they are total couch potatoes.
See evidence of total slothfulness here:

Aren’t dogs a reminder that we are loved by a higher spirit..

Jon,
You need the furminator!! I brushed the most ridiculous amount of fur off of my dogs this past weekend!!

Good luck!

She’s such a pretty girl … it’s nice to see a relaxed photo of her!

Yes, how about those nails! It looks like Coco has a French manicure going.
You’re a brave man for getting eye level with a dog glued to a chew toy. The last time I did this with a dog, I found myself at the end of a warning growl.

that’s a good shot! what, about f/6.3 or so? keeping nose and eyes in focus i find to be an art with the doggie pics.

She looks almost a little Afghan Hound in the pic, lovely noble nose as Sarah said above. Although we don’t want her getting a Barbra Streisand bignose complex. My sister once said to my Mum that she looked like Barbra Streisand and my Mum started crying.

Love this shot. The fact that you managed to snap it is miraculous.

Someone mentioned the furminator - regarding the Chuck photo on Dooce…I second that tool!!!
I have a Karelian Bear Dog - Northern Breed, heavy double coat and he “blows” the undercoat Spring and Fall but Spring is truly a major hair fallout. The furminator and a shedding comb really did the trick. Usually it is a May to August twice daily brushing marathon. He started early this year - we were in Florida until a month ago - and the worst seems to be over.

Has she been fixed yet? I used to have a roomate that had a border collie and an australian shepard. I have a lab. It way mayhem in the house. MAYHEM.

Great shot! I may try to copy with my own dogs. Don’t you love chewies? The dogs get excited and I get free time!

She’s growing up to be a beauty. Fully amped or passed out is exactly how to describe our aussie. Pixel goes from bouncing off the walls to sound asleep all the time. I also think he’s figured out the secret to teleportation as he can get from one end of the dog park to the other in the blink of an eye.

From Zero to Hero. This is also the nature of terriers. It can be very alarming.
