On the other hand, Heather did a great job. It’s too bad they don’t want to have a real conversation about anything on the TV. Probably a post about the Mainstream Media in there somewhere.
But I’m going to hit the streets of the big city and take photos. o

If I remember correctly, when Kathie Lee was on TV regularly with Regis, every show was FULL of stories and personal information about her two children, Cody and the other one. She pretty much blogged, but in a live format. How quickly she forgets…
Heather did great, I’m curious about what sparked the wardrobe change! I’m also excited to see both of your photos when you return from NYC. Looking forward to it.

Loved the segment. Reflecting on it, and the other recent interviews Heather’s done, it is really interesting that the main focus each time is: “Justify what you do.” Then, “Let’s chat about all that hateful feedback.”
I just love the MSM. God forbid someone actually does a story where the bottom line comes down to: “Thankfully this woman has the talent and cojones to say what the rest of the human race wishes it could.” Not to mention celebrate her family and entertain at the same time.

Watched Heather this morning and thought she did a great job under less than ideal conditions. Its a shame that she didn’t get a chance to give more than a 1/2 soundbite response to anything she got asked.
KLG should not be on TV. She seems to have forgotten pimping her kids for years on end.
It would have been nice to seen at least 5 minutes with some solid questions and the ability to mention the book.
At least you got a trip to the other side of the country. Enjoy NYC.

Kathie Lee and what’s her name were horrible interviewers. Heather was great! I wish it wasn’t such a fluff piece because what Heather and other mommy blogs have done is to finally pull women out of a cookie cutter and let them have a say in their lives. The interviewers are part of a generation that smothered any mother who wanted something different. Kudos to Heather again!!!

I just watched the clip - too bad they didn’t have someone intelligent and at least a bit “blog-savvy” doing the interviewing. In spite of that, Heather projected warmth, professionalism, genuiness and intelligence - AND looked great doing it!

devil’s advocate here..the questions weren’t bad..the 4.2 seconds given to answer them were..the idea KLG would be asking ??’s to me is a good one..with her history of discussing her children/life in a different medium with someone who now does it in a new way is fascinating to me..they just needed more time..
but that’s why people blog..nobody has to cut to commercial for a guy sort of cheesing on a lounge chair..
all due respect to the lounge chair guy..I’m sure his mom was proud to see him on tv as well..

Have yet to watch this as I’m at work and it’s on the DVR at home just waiting for me but it sounds like old KLG is having a exorcist moment and has forgotten about how ungraciously she exploited her children from the moment they were conceived. Lest we forget the charities she’s even created in their names. Talk about hypocricy at its finest! I’m sure Heather rocked and I can’t wait to get home to see it!

Kathie Lee is a pain in the ass. I remember her talking about Cody’s damn potty training. Lately, I believe on Today she’s mentioned Frank’s infidelity that was well publicized a while back.

Heather was great which is more than I can say about the interviewers (?)..She should have been on an earlier bit when they had someone who knew what the hell the internet is and not someone who “is a little afraid of computers” (KLG).. GO, HEATHER, YOU ROCK!!! Wish, when I was raising my children YEARS ago, that I could have had the pleasure of a blog like Dooce…of course, at that time, there was no internet and no one had computers in the home..

I slept in (west coast, what can I say…) but still saw the interview on msnbc.com - it’s a shame Heather got stuck with Kathie Lee. I laughed at her concerns about all the info about Leta “being out there”, especially considering Kathie Lee talked non-stop about her kids (back in her days with Regis). Did I see someone else mention the word “hypocrite?”
Blech. But Heather was great. Too bad they didn’t give her more time, but then Kathie Lee always was an attention whore (ouch, did I really say that?)!

Just caught the segment on msnbc.com. Heather was great, and Hota was tolerable, but I have to echo the sentiments of many of those who have come before me and say that Kathie Lee just looks out of place and should have had no part in an interview on blogging.

The only bad thing about that interview? KATHY LEE! If I ever have to watch her again it will be too soon. Uck. She cut Heather off and “led”‘ her into an ending that she tried to make negative. Fortunately, Heather did great and seemed ready for her. Obviously Kathy didn’t “get it” at all. What Heather is doing, the impact she’s made - Kathy seemed jealous to be honest. I guess her blogging wasn’t as successful. And, for her to mention putting Leta at risk when Kathy Lee has built an entire career off talking about her kids.
Anyway, Heather made the best out of the situation. Wish she could have mentioned the book!
Has Heather thought about doing shows around Father’s Day to promote the book?

I hated everything about that interview, with the exception that they happened to be interviewing one of my favorite writers in the world. Was uninformed, condescending, and hypocritical. And I must admit I got super defensive when Kathie Lee blurted out (paraphrasing), “But the site was lucrative, so didn’t your husband quit his job to run things?” Anyone who was reading either of your blogs at that time, knows that isn’t even close to story.
Not to mention that the subtext of that statement implies that all you do is applaud in the background while Heather types a few sentences, takes a couple of pictures, and the money rolls in.
I’m beginning to wonder if anyone on TV has actually visited the internet beyond the MSN homepage. Because every story they do about the internet seems like it was written in 1999, full of danger and mystery, and computerinternettech people. Is their target audience only people born before World War II?

Holy mole, I saw a clip on Jezebel.com and poor Heather looked like she was being interviewed by a couple of bitter, aging sorority girls. Heather makes them look completely irrelevant and ignorant.
The contrast between Heather (well-mannered, stylish and brilliant) and KLG (rude, leathery and insecure) was most entertaining.
Heather rocks. I had no idea she has a southern accent! Now I will read her with the appropriate inflection.

Yes, all of the comments above (and I’m sure below), are correct. But I think everyone is missing the big picture here. As a former book publicist, I can tell you that main stream media is assenine, but it SELLS BOOKS. I’m sure her amazon rankings went through the roof, and will stay high all week. It’s hard to get a Today spot; authors kill for this opportunity.

And as I twittered yesterday, my total FAVE moment of the interview was when KLG winced as she asked about posting pictures of children on the Internet, and then gleefully flashed massive photos of Leta on NATIONAL TELEVISION.

I’m only upset that they didn’t give Heather’s book a plug. For the rest, that Kathie Lee is her own worst enemy. In the immortal words of Dan Ackroyd, “Kathie, you ignorant slut…!”
Thanks to whoever put the link for sending Kathie a direct message. I sent her a brief one which included the point that at least Heather is at home WITH her kid while she’s working, instead of what Kathie did: spending her days in a TV studio blabbing on about her children ad nauseum while someone else keeps them. As I recall, nothing was too intimate to be told on national television. At least with the bloggers no one has to read it just to see what ELSE is on the show.
Dooce is a class act, in cyberspace and in person.
