May 12th, 2008Taken after Heather was on the Today Show and before the Brooklyn madness. I gave this ultra wide angle lens to Heather as a Christmas gift (it’s a Sigma 12-24) and it really showed its strength in Manhattan.

I have the Tokina 12-24 WA, and love it lots.
Haven’t taken it to NYC, yet, though.

@brewcaster, the less compressed version was over 500k. I’ll mess about and see if I can’t replace the big image with something less squished.

Grand Central’s main concourse would have looked cool with that lens, maybe even St. Patrick’s. SO much to explore.
The depth of this shot is really cool.

Is there a way to “unwarpify” the ends when using that type of lens? (Yes, it is TOO a word, so suck it.)

I think that in this case, warpifying makes it art. All the varying diagonals create lovely contrasts. The “fact” that the images are humans and nature are secondary, however fascinating.

I love the leaning buildings. I guess that’s the warpifying effect. It’s it called a “fish-eye” effect? It’s been 16 billion years since I read a photography book. Sound’s like the fun in NYC made up for the KLG experience. I hope so!

Actually, the Grace Building (the grey one in the center) is curved in and the one next to it leans out a bit, so it’s not the lens making you think it’s warped–it’s the architecture.
Hanging out in Bryant Park in the middle of a nice spring day is definitely a Top 5 favorite thing to do in NYC of mine.

I can’t wait to buy my super wide angle lens - getting the tokina 10-17! Played with a friends a few weekends ago and just fell in love! Going to Boston in a few weeks and can’t wait to shoot it with the wide angle!
