Yay Again!

ABC News: Mommy Blogger: ‘Motherhood Is Awful’

I think that aside from the glooby term “mommy blogger”, this is looking like a great piece. The interview went a little further than what’s been out there from the national media. They shot a bunch of footage with me in it, but I don’t know if I made the cut. I tried juggling chainsaws that had been doused in lighter fluid and set alight as well as streaking down by the Mormon Church HQ, but both were deemed too extreme for network television. Especially when the chainsaw slipped and carved a gash in my titanium exoskeleton that is powered by Bluetooth and running the latest Linux kernel.

Check it on Nightline tonight. Crazy times, people. o

Congrats to you and Heather, Jon! This piece definitely seems of a higher standard than a lot of the other stuff about blogs out there. Looking forward to seeing it air tonight!

I think y’all need to adopt the philosophy of a friend of mine who always says, “It can’t get weird enough for me.”
Might as well. Even though all of this is weird in a good way, it’s still got to be intensely odd at times.

Much more depth and realism than the previous interviews. Can’t wait to watch it! Although Nightline does conflict with my Monday Night Hills Fix I will sacrifice to watch this segment. You two are geniuses of the web and I am happy for your well deserved recognition. Also, I can’t wait to meet you both in real life at the book signing in June. Onward and upward.

Looking forward to it. So terribly disappointed in the Today show piece. I knew the bump to the 10:00 hour couldn’t be good. And, although I don’t know Heather … that certainly wasn’t representative of her. Where is that ass kicking SAHM I read everyday?!

    John,

Loved the article but John Larroquette? Isn’t he like forty years older than you. Tell Heather that you are a dead ringer for Jason Lee when he shaves his mustache. And I think Jason matches your sense of humor a lot better.

I am loving all the publicity that Heather is getting. It makes my bride and I feel like we knew something that others didn’t since we have been reading you for a pretty long time.

    Jon,

Streaking by the temple? I’ll pay you to really do it, dude. Ha ha.

Will be switching over from Letterman tonight to see Heather’s interview.

I’m taping it, man. Just because I anticipate not having everyone in the room at the same time. Can’t wait. Going by some of the LOLirific comments on the Nightline page, you’re in for all sorts of new interesting friends.

I just watched it. Great piece. Much better than the today show thing. Congrats!

Just finished watching! It was great! So much better than the Today show piece. You guys were awesome and Heather was smart and sweet and exactly what I imagined. Some day I’ll catch up with y’all at a book signing somewhere.

Hey, I enjoyed the Nightline piece. Just aired down here (Tx). I think it’s hilarious how the press insists on referring to blog POSTS as blogs, but what can you do? I think the camera added 10 pounds. To Chuck. Haha.

    Bill Says:

I think Justin Long should do you. Well, except he’s short.

I guess that’s the long and short of it.

That was a very nice piece on Nightline. KUDOS! :)

The piece hasn’t aired yet out here on the West Coast. I hope you’re edit turns out better than when I was on there a few weeks ago… they shot 120 minutes of footage but had to narrow it down to 19 minutes of airtime, of which I had about a minute. Fortunately, they let me stream the entire event on my website. I think I was more excited about speaking at Yale University (where the piece was filmed) than being on Nightline.

    Can’t wait to see your piece… it starts in 10 minutes. 9:59, 9:58, 9:57…

    Donny Pauling Says:

I may have understated my time on there… it was probably more like 3 to 5 minutes. But it SEEMED like only a minute to me.

    Hee Hee.

I think it’s hilarious how the press insists on referring to blog POSTS as blogs, but what can you do?

Greg, when speaking with people who aren’t too familiar with blogging, I’ve started calling my blog “The column I write online” and the posts “articles”. The seem to understand better that way.

Poop has now been mentioned on National TV. For some reason I have no reason reading it on Heather’s blog, but cringed a little hearing it on TV. Hearing about poop squirting out in the middle of the living room on network tv? Gotta love it!

Love those Apple Computers scattered throughout the piece! I’d say you deserve a check from 1 Infinite Loop.

Martin Bashir just said this piece has set off a lot of debate on their website, so I’m heading over to check it out.

    Good work!

    Terri Says:

That interview was great. Real, genuine, personable, at ease, a really great interview! Bravo! So, it sure wasn’t the guest that cause the “problems” on the morning show (but that was obvious anyway). Nightline did a great piece that really outlined what you do, who you are, etc for the layman. My husband for instance who knows nothing about the site other than my occasional references. Now he says, “Oh, I get it! Tell Jon and Heather hello for me.”

Okay, so maybe he doesn’t ‘quite’ get it and now thinks were really close friend-friends but at least he can see why I’m so interested. Anyway, nice job Dooc and blurb. It was so good I watched it three times. Then I made myself delete it for fear of turning into some weird Dooce stalker or something.

Oh, one more, what was the song Heather was singing? Mouthing? I LOVE that song. Must have it. Please let me know what it was? Thanks!

    RD Says:

Great interview, guys! And I loved seeing Chuck in all his glory–even if he got second billing (”Coco and Chuck”). Good luck with all that’s ahead. It could make your head spin!

  22. 22
    Fiona Says:

Double YAY! Watched the interview last night and you guys were awesome. You deserve all the wonderfullness that comes your way.

    dana wyzard Says:

Juggling chainsaws is not going to get you more coverage on Nightline. You should have picked Heather up and carried her in your arms. THEN we could have seen both of you at the same time!

This was, by far, the best interview with Heather and it’s about time.

I’m not a young mom and I’m not a college boy. I’m OLD, but I found her sight by accident and printed ALL OF IT out so that I could read it on the sofa. Now, I have nothing more to print out and I’m sad.

At first, I couldn’t figure her popularity out. She’s no more irreverant than I am and no one visits MY Site. lol

There’s just something about the two of you and Leta. I guess it’s the “life” we all dream of.

As for people sticking forks in her eyes on the comments: FUCK’EM.

  24. 24
    Kim Says:

Loved it! I think this is the only piece so far that has properly explained the essence of the Blurbodoocery to the general public. You guys were so charming and funny, and I loved the part where Chuck and Coco were mauling each other furrociously (”RRRR! RRRRR! RRRRRRRR!”)

  25. 25
    Hoosiermama Says:

Stayed up late and watched it. It was great! Guess I’m not quite in your demographic. Kids are grown and on their own, but I’ve been reading dooce and blurb since the very beginning. Watching the Today Show piece was painful and the interviewers were horrific (here’s a thought…RESEARCH what you’re interviewing about). I kept thinking “WHY did they let Kathy Lee back on the air?”

Congrats! Great piece on Nightline, and I’m looking forward to the “other projects” that Heather hinted about.
