Dome
May 27th, 2008Taken in downtown Vancouver at the Pacific Centre. Heather and Maggie were dying to see the new H&M which had just opened. I opted out of hitting the new Apple store and instead chose to take photos. I’m really glad I did. The weather was too good to spend our brief time inside a store! o

You should have released a Mylar balloon, just to frustrate it as it settled against that clear view of what’s above.
In fact, the clear sky and looming buildings would have been interesting to see, mutely reflected on the shiny side of the mylar. Although you would have probably needed some additional balloons to get that shot. And a lawnchair.
Wait. That would have been an interesting shot. You, sitting in a lawnchair, tethered to a large bloom of balloons, leaning out of your lawnchair and trying to photograph a lone balloon, set against the apex of the glass dome.
No, forget all that. It’s pretty damn interesting as is.

Amazing image! Definitely suitable for framing. Gorgous colors too, which is also amazing considering it is buildings.
I would like a print of the one from that music festival you went to last year. The one taken from under a tent or something. I’ll have to find it and see what I’m talking about. Are you just gonna let people pick what they want or will you have to offer certain ones? Anyway, later.

Okay it’s this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/blurb/577146155/in/set-72157600412414339/
Actually there are a bunch of that set that would be very nice for framing.

John,
This pic and some of your others have a really strong green tint to them (at least on the monitors I have access to). I’m wondering if you’re messing with WB, or doing some post processing cuz you love ’seeing green’, or maybe it’s just a side-effect of the Cialis my wife’s been slipping me.
Perhaps you’ve blogged on this already?
I’m just curious about this application of creative license. Cheers.

Good choice. I checked out the Apple Store on Saturday…way too busy/crowded to see anything for longer than 8 seconds.

Your next big seller!

Great pic! I walk in there pretty much everyday and would never even think the take a shot like this.
Very nice to meet you on Friday. Sorry about mentioning the H&M to Heather! I’m so happy the weather held up for y’all. Hope you enjoyed your stay!

I’m glad you enjoyed Vancouver. I was going to bike down after work to see you guys, but unfortunately, my bike chain broke and I got frustrated and ate mangoes at home instead.
I’m eager to see more photos.

Delurking to say: As a Vancouverite, it’s great to see my city through your lens! Keep it up.

@jeanette Thanks! Thought there had to be something in the archives to that affect. Silly me, I searched on “green tint photo” when I should’ve searched on “jacked up crazy crap”. Won’t be making that mistake again.
@Jon I screwed up your name too - doh - with a name like ‘duffy’ I try extra hard to get people’s names right. And don’t get me wrong… I dig creative license pretty much anywhere and everywhere the creator chooses to apply it to his/her creations. By all means, jack up those crazy colors boy ’cause Heather pwns the prettypretty ones: http://dooce.com/daily-photo/2008/05/22/where-my-stuff-gene-came

Amarillo needs some new places to shop. I seriously had a dream about shopping in an H&M last night! This weekend we are supposed to drive to Dallas (where I will photograph a wedding) and I hope to squeeze in a few hours of retail and fashion worship.
Nice shot of the dome. I miss YVR. Maybe one day I can live there. But I agree: TARGET must exist first.
