Musically Paradoxical Links

I was sent these by McQueen. You may remember him as the self-censored party on the Road Trip back in 2005 and the death hike in 2006.

From GQ:
Foolish, Foolish Throat: A Q&A with Steve Perry
Journey filled my high school days and later as an upperclassman, my high school nights. Making out to Journey is one of my top memories from high school. Also: slow dancing to “Open Arms” trying to hide my burgeoning, uh, excitement.
This is a great interview and I’m coming out of the closet to say that Neal Schon is one of the great underrated pop guitarists of our age. Also: Greatest pop hair.
I still think that Steve Perry and Dennis De Young (of Styx) need to do an all acoustic set mashing up hits from their respective oeuvres and call the tour “Mr. Roboto’s Open Arms: After the Fall of the Divas”. o

Love the face - the mouth (obviously belting a face-melter) really jumps out at you, but the eyebrows are also priceless. Never fear, Journey was also featured in my high school variety show. That would be the class of 2001.

Back in college, a friend of mine and I came up with a theory that Schon is clearly on a quest to be in the cheesiest band he can find. I mean, think about it: at 15, he tours the world with Santana (after turning down a spot in Derek and the Dominos). But then he thinks to himself, “Hm. Not cheesy enough.” And on to Journey. Cheesy, but not cheesy enough. And then?
Bad English.

Love Journey….before there was any singing. Though Mr. Perry does have nice pipes. Wow and I wonder if he spent much time at the hairdresser for that fro.

I believe you and I are about the same age, Jon, the first rock concert I ever went to - Journey. Theme to my senior prom - “Open Arms”.
And on and on. I love Steve Perry.

I love that *both* Journey and Boston found their new lead singers on the Interwebs. Now we can finally get the Scarab and the Space-Guitar back into orbit!

I can’t think about high school without including Journey songs in practically every one of my greatest memories. They did a song called ‘Suzanne’ that I played over and over until the tape snapped and filled my Walkman with miles of black plastic ribbon.
