That’s a different looking palm tree than the ones near where I grew up in California.
And by “near where I grew up” I mean the two planted by our local In-n-Out.

Damn. Here I was enjoying the beautiful temperate day here in Southwestern PA. Then I saw this photo. Just can’t beat blue skies AND a palm tree. Nice photo!

I always get excited when we see our first palm tree. It’s a visual signature that we’ve arrived, that life here is different. I can almost feel the warmth in my bones as I first spot the distinctive leaves.
Years ago, we drove to Florida for the first time. We stopped at a gas station (not far from Destin, coincidentally) and it was a warm, sunny and breezy day. I was staring at my wife - I do that a lot; she’s OK with it - and I could almost feel the wind in the palm leaves. I can still hear it in my head over 10 years later. Definitely one of those magic moments when all is right with the world.

(And kudos on the registration thing. I got bombed with complaints when I moved to moderated comments on my blog…but considering the trolls I had to deal with over the years, it was a necessary and worthwhile move. Maybe we won’t need stuff like this after people learn to behave themselves.)

Huh. And here the first thing I think of when I hear Florida mentioned is HUMIDITY. Maybe then palm trees.

Canary Island Date Palm, I do believe. Aren’t they lovely? Spiky, though.

Everything is satisfactual…oops sorry. Went into crazy mode. Why does this picture put me into the frame of mind to have a pina colada??? Lovely relaxing shot.
