Stonehenge Lite
June 30th, 2008This was taken near Stanley Park in Vancouver, British Columbia. I felt a deep need to chant and perform some pagan rituals. My druidic tendencies were satiated, albeit briefly, by the beauty of the stones.
There was no time portal/event horizon. Even with the lensbaby. o

Not sure if you’re much of a reader, or even a semi-romance/sci-fi reader at that but the druidic tendencies comment reminded me of a series that i read a while back, The Outlander. Super fabulous books. Check out Diana Gabaldon on wikipedia, you might like her books. Then again you might not *shrugs*

What you’ve got there is the top half of an inukshuk. They pre-date all you silly pagans. From Wikipedia:
“…a man-made stone landmark or cairn, used by the Inuit, Inupiat, Kalaallit, Yupik, and other peoples of the Arctic region of North America, from Alaska to Greenland. This region, above the Arctic Circle, is dominated by the tundra biome, containing areas with few natural landmarks.
The inuksuk may have been used for navigation, as a point of reference, a marker for hunting grounds, or as a food cache.”
An inukshuk is, for better or for worse, featured in the logo for the 2010 Winter Olympics here in Vancouver.

It’s really funny that you posted this, as I just saw it in the background of this video: http://www.vimeo.com/1211060 (The one where Matt Harding dances around the world.)

I love finding stacks of rocks out in the world.
I have a photo of these same rocks on flickr:
