Ominous Night

July 9th, 2008

I should probably just attribute this shot to reading too much Edgar Allan Poe or too many Hitchcock anthologies as a kid. Or maybe too many Anne Rice vampire books. I should have put some bats coming off the building. Or maybe just Meat Loaf as a bat.

Bat Loaf? o

ooh, nice colours (looks like a nice mix of dark teal and blue on my monitor)

I had nightmares for years after reading the Edgar Allen Poe book in my children’s classics collection. I was 7 or 8 when I read the one about the beating heart under the floor (dead bodies under the floor, in a children’s classics set!!) and I still refuse to read it again at the age of 29. It may mentally scar me for another few years :-s

    LOL

Love this photo, but I will have “Bat Out of Hell” running through my head on a continuous loop all day now. So, thanks for that.

I like the greenish blue color :)

Oh hell yes. Poe, Hitchcock, and Anne Rice in one (two, but whatevs) sentence. I love the bottom right corner of this photo. Ever since I visited Japan in March and saw how prevalent above-ground power lines are there, I’ve been obsessed with photographing them and started noticing them everywhere.

    “Bat-Meat”

When I saw the picture I was drawn to the texture of the wires that comes through almost on accident. When you wrote about bats I kept thinking of the Dispatch song Bats in the Belfrey.

Does this not remind anyone of the old movie The War of the Worlds with Gene Barry?

  8. Lynn says:

It does not remind me of any of those authors. Just not spooky enough for that. But my imagination could be different. The photo , in my opinion, is a better representation of how beautiful nature can be covered up and blocked out by industrial needs.
