July 10th, 2008I love the light in the sky. And I like shooting with the 50mm lens. It removes the dickery that happens with a zoom lens and forces composition. Maybe I like it because the lens makes me work a little harder?
I can’t remember the neighborhood we were in when I took this. The Mason v. Armstrong bourbon consumption was ON the entire trip and I was in last place most of the time. o

This is another one I’d buy. Very nice. I recently saw Cat Power at that theatre.

@amybaby, You can get 50mm lenses at a variety of price points. We have this lens and love it. Canon makes a cheaper one that does a good job as well. There is a more expensive 1.2 lens, but the 1.4 that we have is super sweet and light.

For Nikons, I can highly recommend the 50mm 1.8f which is very affordable and a great little lens:

The 1.4 is also excellent (I’ve used it), but the small difference in f-stops and the large difference in price (detailed in the review link above) wasn’t worth it for me so I decided to try the 1.8 first, and stuck with it.
Hmm, I haven’t treated myself to a new lens since Xmas…(quickly Googling…)

I take it since you shot this with a 50 some of the brilliance of the color is there with photoshops help. What kind of improvement did you apply to the shot?
