A Sort of Homecoming
August 4th, 2008Taken by Heather on our trip to Vancouver in May, 2008. I was too overcome with joy and other complex, dare I say, foreign emotions to take a decent shot of this place. I’ve been looking for ages for men’s size 13 Birkenstock rubber clogs. I love my Crocs, but I needed something waterproof and sturdy. The shoes shown in this photo (and it’s accompanying blasphemous verbiage) is the answer to that search, purchased at the shop shown above.
Even with the exchange rate, I couldn’t resist the purchase. I’m thinking about hijacking the Daily Style and demonstrating the true beauty of these shoes. I owe Mrs. Kennedy a huge thanks for opening my clog world up.
And haters: SUCK IT. o

Clog wearers of the world unite!
Comfort and function in one fantastic type of footwear.

I don’t care much for clogs on me, but I do like Birkenstocks (after a long, long battle of resisting them) so I say “Do what your feet like.” Life is too short to wear uncomfortable shoes.

It’s only fitting that an old man like you needs “orthopedic European comfort shoes”. They must have been out of the white patent leather ones for you to buy them in black.

I remember seeing that shop when I was there in April - if I had thought about the Birks then, I would’ve snapped some up too. For now, the Crocs will have to do until I can find some.

Jon, in defense of your wife, I give you this link to an article in the current issue of Newsweek:

My husband LOVES his crocs and his birks. I’m not a hater, but I will say that clogs are not the fashion choice to make if one wishes to get laid.

Awesome! Be kind to your feet.
If everyone wore comfortable, sensible shoes, the world would be a better place

I am in Heather’s camp of fashion over function. Not trying to be a hater but clogs just aren’t fashionable in any way, shape or form.

oh the pain of finding size 13 shoes that you like. Every time I want new shoes it’s like an adventure to Disneyland, except Mickey is a disgruntled basketball player, all the rides make you vomit and I suddenly have this urge to eat bacon.

If the ones you bought are the Super Birki clogs, the price to beat is $60 with free shipping in the US: http://e-shoes.stores.yahoo.net/superbirkiclog.html
Yes, they have your size (and even bigger!)
I found them by searching thefind.com website.

I think it’s those plastic pink princess shoes that are the true offenders…..hoping it’s just a phase.

That’s a sign of the apocolypse, right there.
When the world ends, all that will be left is cockroaches & ugly-ass clogs.

I’m glad Heather was there to capture your moment for you. I can FEEEEEEEL the emotion

Sigh.

Fie on you clog haters….yes, form over fashion applies here. If my feet hurt, the whole rest of me hurts!!!
And Jon, size 13? Try this:

2 of the MOST comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned

Yay, what #5 said.
I want a pair of those. Crocks are too floppy for me and they’ve never lasted me very long.
August 5th, 2008 at 12:58 am
And the reason you haven’t moved here yet is what exactly?
August 5th, 2008 at 6:20 am
Hijacking the Daily Style - LOL!!! Heather would keel over dead if she saw those clogs on her site
Sorry, but the ‘House of Clogs’ shop front makes me cry. So many damn typefaces!! No design skill whatsoever! Eek!

In defense of Heather, I must point out a recent column in Newsweek: http://www.newsweek.com/id/150240 That being said, my shoe choices are limited because I actually wear orthotics, so what the hell do I know about style?

I’m treading the line and thinking about getting a pair, but I just realized something as I was rereading your post.
Dude’s got some BIG ASS FEET!
