Making Accommodations

August 12th, 2008

I love the hole in the fence and the nearly 90° angle of the tree here. I did a very brief, mid-day photo walk in Destin and it proves two things: I need to do photowalks super early or super late in the day and trying to be patient in the heat and humidity is not a strength I possess. I’m working on it. o

Yeah, here in FL in the summertime (which lasts 9 months), the heat and humidity sap your energy and occasionally your will to live. You learn to do all your outdoor stuff at the edges of the day if possible. Even then, sometimes it’s almost unbearable. And hot + sticky = CRANKY! At least I live at the beach, where there’s usually a sea breeze to keep things a bit cooler.

Before A/C, I don’t know how people kept from killing each other. Have we just become a bunch of heat-addled pussies? Or is it just me….

Early is better than later. Early shooting is mostly before everyone wakes up, and there’s fewer people to question your motives for shooting that rock/tree/bridge/whatever. And fewer cars are around to get in the way of some of the nicer architecture shots. The light is perfect and the world is enveloped in a zen-like silence. My time.

I remember fences like that from college in Florida. The absolute best.

I want to live in this photo. Especially since we have had somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 sunny days all freakin summer. I don’t know what we’re going to do come winter, when we have no summer reserves to draw from. We’ll be all ~ remember that time we went to the beach & the dog was laying in the tide pools to cool off? Oh, wait, that was TWO summers ago.
