Outside Lands Crowd
August 27th, 2008Taken from the photo pit right before Wilco took the stage. That photo pit was insane. There were tons of people in the pit, including 50 photographers. Getting a good angle in three songs was a pain compared to the other artist sets from this same stage.
More photos coming in a later post. o

Sweet shot. The photo pit was pretty insane, but I’ve been in worse.
Vampire Weekend and Roger Waters at Coachella this year were really bad. I didn’t even make it into the pit for M.I.A. or Hot Chip. They were flooded with VIPs because the security guards weren’t doing so well with keeping them to the sides of the stage.
Makes me value the San Diego shows with only one or two other photographers in the pit
I love how you can’t tell what year it is, how today’s fashion has meshed the past 4 decades.
Courtney, I was thinking the same thing. The bushy mustache, the white wayfarers, the vintage ringer tees … this could be 1984.
Agree with courtney and rivetergirl!
It’s the light, though, for me. That, and the haircuts.
All things old are new again, I guess. Looks like it was a truckload-o-fun!
I just had to register to comment on this photo, it’s beautiful. I love that you get a sense of huge crowd and yet there are still lots of faces in focus to study.
Awesome light. Looks like you all had a blast.
Great shot. Was the ratio of men to women about 100:1? It looks like a whole lot of dudes.
I have had a (rare) Wilco-free summer, which upsets me greatly. Glenn taught me drums back when he wasn’t famous and had to teach high school music lessons to pay the bills. And now, we’re former students who turned into even bigger groupies.
Can’t wait to see the shots and hear your take on the show.
This photo reminds me of Woodstock ‘94 … at least, it reminds me of the first day, which was lovely. The other two days were all about downpours, thunder, lightning and a 5-square-mile area covered with mud the consistency of Jello chocolate pudding.
Wilco doesn’t do much for me, but I love the crap out of this shot. Super evocative and nostalgic. I’ll see the previous commenter’s 1984 and raise them a ‘79.
you got to see Wilco AGAIN! Lucky sucker.
