The Gray Lady in Green
January 7th, 2009This was taken in December, 2008, during our one-day power trip to San Francisco.
In 1998, I did a kind of interview/portfolio share at what was then CKS. I was looking to move from publishing into design and advertising. I had a dream.
So I walk into the art director or creative director or whoever’s office (I can’t remember, it was over 10 years ago) and looked out her office window. I was blown away by the view of the Bay Bridge from her desk. Plus, at that time CKS did a ton of work for Apple. Later, CKS merged with another company and became marchfirst. About 90 days later, marchfirst imploded in one of the first of many dot com casualties.
Now the ad network we work with on the mothership has offices there. Spectacular views and great people.
This shot was taken with the Canon G9 during a break in meetings. Not bad for a point and shoot. Not bad. o

I’m loving the G10 – it’s like a pocket SLR (disguised as a solid block of black metal), and the high-ISO is great for a P&S. My storage needs have increased accordingly, however, since the files are almost twice the size of my 30D’s.
Looks like a still from “The Matrix.” I’m waiting for Neo to fly through the shot.
Nicely done.
ah, I love my bridge. I’ve always claimed it as my own. I’m such an east bay commuter girl.
Not bad? Holy hell it’s gorgeous!
I was playing with my Panasonic’s “Aperture Priority” and “Shutter Priority” modes today, but they can’t do anything compared to your gear… :’(
Wow, MarchFirst. There’s a memory. I remember working with consultants from there back in the 90s; awesome guys but I can’t remember much else! It’s going to drive me crazy.
Oh, also, great shot.
how are you liking the g9?
i get a LOT of noise from mine (lots of pixels on that leeeeetle sensor). do you find you have to photoshop for NR a lot (even on the low ISO shots)?
your photos from it just look way better than mine.
was that taken from Hills Plaza? I work in that building and I get to see this view every day… though obviously not with nice tone you’ve added here.
nice shot
