If You Use Adobe CS4, You Need to See This

January 27th, 2009

Fireworks CS4 is a shit festival.

Exhibit A: 75 pixel x 22 pixel file opens in full screen mode. The resize window area is about 2 pixels x 2 pixels. I’ll spare the rest of my gripes, because they are all here:

Adobe UI Gripes
(via: everybody who cares about the tools they use)

Adobe. Adobe. Adobe. COME ON. Weak sauce, people. Weak. o

Feeling a bit better that I haven’t been able to upgrade yet.

This may be a silly question, but why are your pictures so small when I view them in google reader? Is it something I am doing. I am also interested in how that works as far as ad revenue, do you still get credit if I only view your blog, or your wife’s page through google reader?

This question is off-topic for this post. In the future, rather than leave an unrelated question in a comment, I’m asking that you send me this question via email.

I am more concerned over the compatibilities and functionality from program to program…. Some of the “gripes” on that site were just a tad nit-picky.

If fireworks is the new ImageReady for web type content. Then I need it to work with Photoshop a little better. I have always hated in the past that I needed three different programs because they all do one thing better then the other (ImageReady, Fireworks, Photoshop) when they could just make Photoshop better buy adding better compression tools and web enhancing options.

Btw… I see you got the code working for replies… nice, I am still working on making the code changes for my template.. Finding the time for it… is the problem.

This kind of UI garbage is making a business opportunity for somebody. Lineform and Acorn are fast rising apps in Adobe’s space. Adobe would do well to clean their garbage.

Using Flash to generate UI elements, when Adobe’s Flash client runs like ass on OSX (massive CPU hog for all but the highest end machines), is a recipe for disaster.

It’s clear Adobe doesn’t give a shit. Monopoly at work.

I’d jump on a simpler app that does what Fireworks does in a second; web-centric vector based text and objects with image integration. JUMP. Lightroom has already replaced Photoshop for most of my image editing tweaks.

Photoshop is not a good layout tool. AT ALL. draw a box with rounded corners. Do stuff to that box. Takes forever in PS. Seconds in Fireworks. Draw a horizontal or vertical line in Photoshop. Move it around. Change it’s properties. Painfully long process in Photoshop. Seconds in Fireworks.

Adobe Flash used for drawing UI. HORRID.

I agree that these applications should be better quality overall, especially since the release of CS4 is only to make more money…. Most of these changes and upgrades were ready when CS3 was released…. Why didn’t they put them in then? Because they could wait a few months and make you upgrade again. Especially if they pull the file format crap they did with the InDesign programs. CS4 could have all been done with a patch….

I never really saw Photoshop as a layout tool, you can split those jobs up between illustrator and InDesign, but when you are trying to throw a comp together for a web site… its still easier to use raster type programs…

I am going to hold out on CS4…. I know there are some (a very small amount) features I want to play with, but nothing I “need”

        On a side note….

I still have some problems with cross compatibility from illustrator to flash… this is what I was talking about in the start, vector’s are vector’s no matter what programs they are in… Its just math, and now that they are now under the same roof! It should work together flawlessly.

        But it doesn’t…

I reverted back to 7 shortly after cs came out. It was incredibly slooooooow no matter what I did with it and had many other “annoying” features. I am waiting until they fix it before I upgrade again.

  5. oh crap. I have the budget set to upgrade my team in March.
