My marvelous image

Light Star

April 13th, 2009

Taken in Austin after Heather’s book signing. The weather was pleasant, we had great company and great food.

One of the reasons we upgraded our camera was so we could get better shots in low light. This was the first time I really pushed the camera and the results are a pleasant surprise. This was shot with a longer lens at 2000 ISO. I’m very pleased with the results. WORTH IT.

Now, the nesting has begun in earnest and there are projects. Oh god, the projects. o

have you tried any ultra-high ISO shots, like maybe concerts? I have to make a decision soon, and I think the D700 is just that much better at the high end.

I have not done ultra high ISO shots. I haven’t done concerts with the big camera.

Does dpreview.com have a comparison chart? I wonder if you could rent one or the other and shoot with each in the conditions you describe… that would certainly seal it one way or the other. I think the 5D MkII is miles better at high ISO than the 5D is.

Wow, that looks great. Someday I’ll own a camera that can manage a shot like that…

By the way, I started using Google Reader to try and save myself time without sacrificing any of the blogs I read, and I noticed that Heather’s images come out full-size whereas yours come out as thumbnails (or at least smaller versions). Is that purposeful? I’d love to see yours full-size too, for what it’s worth. :)

I made a choice to serve smaller images based on bandwidth and speed, nothing else. I figure that if someone is reading feeds, they are looking for a lighter browsing/reading experience and the feed should load quickly. But that’s me.

    Oh, the NESTING…and the PROJECTS!!!

Hey, at least you know you’re getting an infant. I’m in the process of adopting from Ethiopia. All I know is I’m getting two siblings, age 60 months and younger. Try planning for that! Not that I’m complaining…I can’t WAIT!

Good luck with all the projects. Can’t wait to see your second little muffin once she makes her entrance! I’m so very excited for your whole family!

I wouldn’t have thought to crank up the ISO on a shot like this. After all, it’s a picture of LIGHTS. Lol…

    • blurb says:

200mm telephoto shot at 200mm will force you to kick up the ISO. Particularly when shooting at night.

HAVE YOU SHOT AT NIGHT BEFORE? lol…

Ooooh I love this one – the combination of the clear bulbs and the on and off opaques..beautiful! Great sign. I have GOT to visit Austin some day!
