That looks so crazy different – I think it will be like getting used to using a mouse for the first time, all over again. Very cool

It’s funny because PC zealots used to say that Apple stuck with the one-button mouse even after the two-button mouse became standard because they didn’t want to admit they were wrong. The joke went that some day Steve Jobs would come out with a no-button mouse just to spite people.

Looks like that day is finally here. :)

It definitely looks interesting. Like the new multi-touch trackpads on the MacBooks where the entire pad is a button, it will undoubtedly take getting used to. However, if it’s anything like the change I experienced when I first made the switch to Apple with the Intel MacBooks, it could very well be one of those things where once you’re used to it, you never want to go back. I still have trouble scrolling on family members’ Windows laptops because I want to use two fingers to do it. :p

Same thing happens to me! I do my paid work on a PC laptop but I use Mac for my personal stuff.

In facxt, I’ve got a new MacBook Pro in the other room that just needs a couple more hours of installation and setup and then it will replace this one.

  4. Meanwhile, women all over are reporting that their geek husbands suddenly are much better with their fingers than before.

I’m sorry, but my first thought was, “It looks like a boob.” Is this a progression from the IBM “nipple” mouse in the centre of the keyboard?

Good lord, look what must be on my mind. *sanitize*

Wow. It’s like the new trackpad, only white and portable! I agree it’s gonna take getting used to, kind of like the new trackpad. And I’m gonna feel just as dumb when I go up to some other normal mouse and try to two-finger swipe on it!

Hmmmmm, me thinks I will reserve judgement.

I’m a long time, card carrying Macophile and I proselytise with the best of them, but I have two regular bugbears with the brand: 1) The whole don’t-admit-there’s-a-problem-until-we-have-a-patch-to-fix-it policy that Mac hold so dear, and 2) the Mac Mouse: universally shithouse.

But it might just be that I have my cranky pants on at the minute because our Macs wont play nice and sync with our Mobile Me account since installing Snow Leopard. And it’s 9:30am here and I’ve had minimal caffeine, same difference.

Yeah uh. I will have to go by my fancy Apple Store and play. This is in danger of creating a shopping experience I might not be able to afford! Damn you cool Apple gadgets!#!#!

    I just ordered one!

I hope it lives up to the hype… the mighty mouse has been an enormous failure. It’s a great concept, but i’ve owned 4 and the scroller ball on each one has stopped working at some point.

I think the absence of moving parts on this one, however, has the potential to make it last. I can’t wait to try it out.

Please report when you get it. I love the trackpad action on the latest Mac laptops, so I’m hoping they’ve finally hit it with this one.

I got it on Friday! I wish I hadn’t ordered it online as I could’ve walked down to the apple store and swooped it up…

but anyway, I dig it for the most part and I think the lack of moving parts means it’ll hold up a lot better than the mighty mouse. I do really miss the side buttons, though. I normally have them tied to expose and having to drag the cursor to a corner is a little annoying, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

        Overall, I’m pretty impressed.
