Apple Tablet Predictions
January 26th, 2010Totally late to the game:
- They are going to introduce a tablet device tomorrow.
- Size: I’m going to guess a little larger than the Kindle 2 (Not the DX, the small one).
- Design: I think that the bezel is going to need to be larger than the mock ups I’ve seen. Holding a Kindle as a reader, a large bezel is a necessity.
- The OS will be the iPhone/iPod Touch OS. Makes app management and selling content super slick and easy.
- I’ll guess 32 GB of RAM.
- I doubt they’ll introduce multiple sizes tomorrow.
- It’s still not going to help Marlo get enough nap time during the day. Have to wait on the next revision.
- It is going to smoke the Kindle.
- I’ll want one in the first 5 seconds, then not want, then want, then not. This will drive Heather crazy.
We’ll see. What do you think is gonna happen tomorrow? o

jon, i agree.
i will want one, then not, then want, then not, then my wife will ask me to take out the trash and clean the diaper genie.
i think this device will be the beginning of changing media. I STILL work in the newspaper industry and so i have to believe that this could help shape the future of readership whether it be subscription based and NYTimes and among others, the Denver Post, will throw in a Tablet with some form of a multi-year subscription ( paid in full ).
i also see endless possibilities for education, business, artists, and geeks alike.
i think, if half of the rumours are true, i will jump on board the first (expensive) wave.
good luck with the sleeping kid thing. maybe it will have a mobile MOBILE app that you can hang on the ceiling for her to fall asleep to.
Crap. I can only use 2% of my iPhone after having it for a year! In a world of “tablet devices”, I’m an ink and quill girl.
You need to hit the App store.
I believe that there will be something no one (or very few people) have talked about yet, likely revolving around connectivity.
I also think that the major selling point will have to be around using it in the current environment, with your current media. Apple has invested far too much into this to roll it out with the only difference from a laptop being “Hey, now you can buy newspapers!”. If all this is is a touch screen tablet with MacBook Air specs and a virtual keyboard, I don’t see people getting in line to buy it, at least like they did with the iPhone.
32gb of RAM would rock.
But I believe you meant storage space?
Yeah, I was talking storage. I would imagine the device would have to have 512MB to 1GB of RAM to function as a gaming device at a resolution larger than the iPhone/iPod Touch.
Wonder what they’ll call it. Maybe the i[of]Newt[on].
Sorry, it’s been a long day.
And it shall be called “Slice”.
The Apple Slice, and it will be very cool, but I just got a Kindle 2 last August and have a baby on the way in April and a new basement to pay for. So I’m just hoping for a new version of iLife.
What about Diet Apple Slice?
This is what Derek wants:

Great points and worth a read. (via: Daring Fireball)
All I know is I’m pretty darn excited and this thing has the potential to be the best scientific calculator, ever.
eh, we’ll see. right now it just looks to me like a larger ipod touch. the google phone was supposed to blow everyone’s mind, but guess what? it’s a phone. just waiting for the day that a tricorder become reality, i’ll get one of those
I might want one… but I’ll wait for second generation. I have learned the hard way about being a first gen adopter from way back when I bought a Quadra 660av and a Quadra 840av. In general — whether it’s hardware or software I usually wait and only upgrade every second generation or so.

I LOVED my Quadra 660AV! I recorded a couple of albums on that little machine!
I did not regret buying the 1st generation iPhone. That was by far the best phone I’ve ever owned. The successive versions have only improved my experience.
That Onion link is spectacular!
