I love this Walgreen’s sign on Canal Street. Every time I was out at night, I wanted to shoot it, but I was usually walking to or from an event and so I didn’t spend my usual time tweaking settings to get the ultimate all time best image ever. However, I’m not sure that I needed to spend that much time. This image has very little work done on it and it’s all because of this very expensive, amazing lens, the Canon EF 85mm f1.2L II USM.
This image has a relatively low ISO for a nighttime shot. I shot this in aperture-priority mode and opened it up so I could get a super fast shutter speed to mask any camera shake, which I’m horrible at controlling. Having a lens that captures so much light enables, generally speaking, faster shutter speeds, lower ISOs and a wide range of usable f-stops.
