Google just made its $149 professional photo editing software free

Yes, it’s free. Yes, it’s awesome. Yes, you should get it right now. I paid $149 for it as soon as I could. Worth it.

However.

They aren’t going to keep developing it:

Update: Mar. 29, 3:16pm EST: Google confirmed to Quartz that the Nik Collection will continue to be updated for compatibility with other operating systems and programs, including Lightroom and Photoshop, but there will be no new versions of the suite in the future.

Absolutely killer set of plugins for Lightroom/Photoshop. Viveza’s ability to quickly relight a scene was a game changer. Anybody who’s spent time with the adjustment brush in Lightroom knows what I’m talking about.

Google’s history of killing free products (Reader was the hardest to cope with on a personal level)  isn’t good. I’ll use Nik Collection until it’s dead.
