Midsummer, Almost Night (which means sunset)

Another in a long line of Utah sunsets.

The ridgeline the sun is disappearing behind is Antelope Island. Which is located here:

Due to a growing tree outside my window, I’ve been unable to get as many great sunset shots from my bedroom window this year as I did last year. However, I found a spot out behind my place that if I tilt up just right, I can get a fairly decent shot. I don’t recall if I used my variable neutral density filter on this one or not. The aperture was set to ƒ13 and I bumped up the exposure compensation by 1/3 of a stop, so I’m guessing that I did not use the filter. Typically, I use that filter with a slower shutter speed and in full manual mode. Regardless of whatever photo nerdery I did or did not participate in, I really like this shot.

Maybe shooting sunsets helps me evaluate my day, ask myself if I did something nice for somebody and contemplate tomorrow.

Or maybe not. Maybe I’m taking these shots as a way to find beauty to lighten my darkened soul. Maybe I’m still working on my new death metal band: DEATH PANEL.
