Neo Classical Civic Building

I think it’s fair to say that I love pretty much any architecture. I used to be all about the crazy, but I like to think that my tastes have widened a bit. Don’t get me wrong, the EMP in Seattle is a perfect architectural rendering of what Jimi Hendrix sounds like. And if you don’t like Hendrix? Ok, the building is the sound of rock music personified, including hallucinogens.

While the decoration on this particular building would be considered needless by most of the Bauhuas disciples, There’s something about the Classic, Greco-Roman architecture (and Neoclassic) that feels right as a public building. There are exceptions (more images here), obviously.

During my 2009 trip to NOLA, this building caught my eye and I shot this image. I don’t know why I didn’t shoot the angle in the image above, but it may have been that I only had the 35mm fixed lens on that 2009 trip.
