I know these aren’t all conventional wisdom, but these selections represent who I’d like to win more than who I think will win. I usually pick them right before they call them out on the show, but I wanted to try it this way this year.

Julie Christie in “Away from Her” (Lionsgate)
(although Ellen Page might get it for “Juno”; the academy loves younger actresses, just like Hollywood)
Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role:
Javier Bardem in “No Country for Old Men”
Performance by an Actpr in a Leading Role:
Daniel Day-Lewis in “There Will Be Blood”
Director:
Paul Thomas Anderson – “There Will Be Blood”
Best Picture:
“There Will Be Blood”
