Solid Rocket Booster Footage

Believe me, I know I’m a year and some late on this video, but wow.

The plant where the boosters were designed, built, tested and shipped was 25 miles outside of the city in northern Utah where I grew up. I remember my dad taking me to one of the first test firings out in the desert. They tested one booster only and after that test, I couldn’t imagine what it would sound like to have two of them firing at the same time. I temped out there the summer of 1988, right before the Space Shuttle resumed flying after the 1986 Challenger explosion. Still one of the best professional experiences I’ve ever had.

The shots where the boosters fall back to earth are reminiscent of this summer’s Star Trek movie‘s shots of the Enterprise.
