Summer Vacation

Summer Vacation

For the first time since we’ve had Leta, I felt like our trip over the fourth of July this year was a real vacation. I think it was Leta sleeping in on the 4th. When we travel with Leta (a rarity) we share a room with her. We can’t control the environment like we do at home with the foil and the playing of the hardball. We are usually in for little sleep and lots of grump when we travel. This trip appeared to be no different. She woke up at 5:45 am and since we couldn’t placate her with Sesame Street, we ignored her minimal pleas and she fell back asleep until almost 9:30 in the a.m. Even weirder, both Heather and I slept that long as well, making for a joyous day of well-rested people.

One of my favorite moments from this trip has been the kites. The in-laws have a kite at the cabin and the conditions have been perfect for easy flying. So easy that Leta was able to hold on to the string. She wasn’t sure how to do it at first, and given the strength of the wind, she was taking several quick steps and wanting to let go, but with the help of her mother, she was able to stand still and fly the kite:

Leta has always loved the wind and seeing the kite way up there gave her almost as much joy as watching her cousins chase each other.

It has been a great week, but we’re going to have to struggle to catch up with reality.
