The Sound at the Core of a Bubble

Marlo loves bubbles. Loves them. Last weekend we were shopping for some new clothes for her and she was excited about the princess pajamas and the kitty dress with the frills. But more than that was what happened when she discovered the store had a mini toy department. I let her browse and once she saw the bubble shooter, it was game over. She held the package like it was gold.

We went to my mom’s house while Leta had a playdate and Marlo and I played bubbles. I was shooting the bubble gun and shooting photos (full manual, no less, a first for me with action shots of Marlo). This one stood out as the perfect moment right before she connected and popped those bubbles. I love her expression here. Despite the threes, these are the moments I live for with her. Just the two of us, playing and me with a front row in the audience for her discoveries, her joy and her childhood.

The next time she freaks out, it is moments like this that I will draw upon to remind myself, that despite the bossy demands and the stubbornness to get her way, she’s three and delightful most of the time.
