This macro of 1969 Pontiac Fury headlights was taken in the Garden District of New Orleans. It seemed a little weird that a car like this would be parked on the street of a poshy neighborhood.

Then I got to thinking about what it would take to keep a 41 year-old car running. It would not be cheap. I love the 1960s era of US cars, but every time I think about getting one, I think about storage, maintenance and the horrible gas mileage. I had a 1972 Buick LeSabre two-door in college. I would always bitch about gas money when I drove anywhere. My roommates thought I was being stupid until one of them needed to borrow it after his own car was totaled in a car accident. He drove it a few times a week and couldn’t believe how much it cost to run. I think it was something like $30/week for minimal city driving, $10 just to start the damn thing. And that was 25 years ago when gas was $1.25/gallon.
